What is obesity?
Obesity is the condition that the adipose tissues are excessively accumulated on the body, and BMI (weight (kg) ÷ height (m)*2) is 25 or more. The obesity patient has also obesity-related diseases or needs medical control as the person is expected to have such diseases.
Types of Obesity
Simple (primary) obesity: imbalanced energy intake and consumption. Over 90% belongs to this type.
Secondary (symptomatic) obesity: Caused by endocrine diseases or medicines.

The secondary obesity has causes in endocrine diseases, hereditary diseases, or hypothalamus of the brain. The treatment should be made for the causing diseases or behavior disorders. Secondary obesity accounts for just 10% or less, but if you are diagnosed to have obesity, this may be applied to you.

Drugs (Psychotropic drug, Adrenocortical hormone)
Caused by a chronic hypersecretion of cortisol, an adrenal cortical hormone. Defined by hypertension, diabetes, osteoporosis, central obesity, moon-shaped face, striae cutis, hirsutism, acne, buffalo hump (adiposity on shoulders).
A decreased level of thyroid hormone causes hypometabolism of the entire body. It may cause weight increase, edema of eyes, lack of motivation, tired feeling, bradykinesia, dry skin.
It is called “Stein-leventhal syndrome.” Defined by menstrual disorder or polycystic swelling of both ovaries for women, male hormone or luteinizing hormone abnormality for men. It may cause hirsutism, infertility, acne, or low-tone voice. Blood drawing or echo examination is required.
